My art is often an exploration of my faith and a way to connect to God.  In many ways, the creative process becomes worship.  Recently I've been exploring images of grief; the passage of time, people gone, personal limitations.

Through my work I am realizing that sadness gives me a greater appreciation for joy.  Just as Amish quilts need the black color to give the simple designs visual “pop” by pushing the color spectrum, sadness makes joy more intense.

He who goes out weeping carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with him.” Psalm 126:6.

Deep creativity cannot be forced or given a timeframe.  It creeps up of its own accord, unexpected and not consciously invited.  Art that comes from the inner self, the unbidden surprise that bursts forth of its own accord, cannot be forced into the confines of time or intention.  The state of mind, the physical presence and the creative spark must work in unison to create art that speaks to the inner spirit.
